Damhsa is Dance as Gaeilge (story of design).

Wherever I have travelled, time and time again, I meet people who love Irish dancing and the connection it gives them to Ireland. In Art College, we studied Degas ballerinas. I loved the movement and energy expressed in his drawings! But ballet to me was not a part of Irish heritage. I decided to look closer to home and draw from Irish dancers.

With this piece, I wanted to connect through language and calligraphy with Irish dancing. My drawing of the dancing feet is enclosed by Dance expressed in 5 European languages of French, Spanish, Irish, German and English – Danse, Baile, Damhsa, Tanzen, Dance.

I inked the lettering with modern calligraphy in a fresh, colourful style. The Irish language is one of the oldest languages in the world, Angelina takes this expressive heritage and styles it as contemporary, progressive and fun.
