Raku fired ceramic vessel with turquoise crackle glaze and decorative resist area. The piece and bottom part of the lidhave been thrown on the wheel, the top of the lid is hand built. After bisque firing to 950°c. the section above the shoulder of the pot is masked off and the piece is coated with a turquoise crackle glaze made from our own recipe and placed in a raku kiln and fired to 825°c. It is lifted from the kiln when molten and placed in a reduction bin filled with paper and wood chips. A lid is put on allowing the carbon to be trapped by the clay body. When the piece is removed from the reduction bin a spray of water is applied revealing the unique crackle pattern. The areas without glaze turn black.
Unique one off piece. Size: H from top of lid 20cm x W:17cm
Care of Raku Pottery : Wipe gently with a damp cloth. Due to the low firing process raku ceramics are not shock-resistant nor waterproof or frost proof so suitable for indoor decorative use only.
